The combination of college tuition fees, living expenses, housing, and loans makes pursuing a higher education an expensive investment. It also scares away many enterprising students and their parents. While fees are exorbitant, we at SouthWest Sun Solar want to support your decision and share your load.
Since SouthWest Sun Solar came into existence in 2014, it has been devoted to creating awareness about solar energy in the California community. Our primary focus has been through continual community work and diversity outreach. We are extremely proud of our in-house staff which includes some of the most talented and humane people. They have been working hard every day to ensure environmental preservation and to bring more diversity to our workforce. The SouthWest Sun Solar Scholarship is designed to spread the word into the academic realm. Following our vision of bringing solar to every family, we want to support students who have a passion for solar by giving them a cheque of $500.
Criteria for scholarship
We will evaluate applicants based on their academic performance, in addition to their contribution to their community service.
To be able to register, the applicants must be undergraduate students at the time of the application. They also must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA and be able to submit proof that they are residents or students of a university/college in the Southern California area.
How to apply for the scholarship
Applicants must fill out the application form , attach a resume and submit 2 recommendation letters from employers, professors, advisors, or community leaders. In addition, applicants must submit a 500-word personal statement about their work in the community. Here, they can discuss their work in the solar or renewable energy industry. This can include details of your school research, community service or any form of work in the said industry. Highlight how your work in spreading the benefits of solar has contributed to the understanding of solar, or any other renewable forms of energy.
